Idaho WIC temporarily increases food benefits IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) - Participants in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) will see a temporary increase in their June through September benefits for the purchase of fresh fruits and vegetables. Idaho received $2.4 million from the federal American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 to boost the Cash-Value Benefit (CVB) for WIC participants by more than three times the current amount for up to four months to provide additional relief during this difficult time. The additional money will also increase revenue for Idaho’s WIC-authorized grocery retailers.

NAMPA — The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is pleased to announce today’s official opening of State Hospital West . The new facility provides a secure setting where youth will receive more intensive comprehensive behavioral health services than they could receive in a community hospital environment, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The new facility is on the grounds of the Southwest Idaho Treatment Center in Nampa and will provide treatment for up to 16 adolescents ages 12-17 years old and employ 51 staff. Previously, adolescents who needed this level of care were treated in a unit at State Hospital South in Blackfoot. That unit will be converted to a high-risk adult unit for those who are committed to the state of Idaho.

State Hospital West, located at 1652 11th Avenue North on the campus of the Southwest Idaho Treatment Center, is designed to treat youth aged 12-17 in a secure setting. The facility will treat up to 16 adolescents at a time, and employ 51 staff members. According to the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, the hospital will provide more intensive behavioral health treatment than what is currently available at community hospitals.
