seeing on their weather radar this cell ahead of them and make being a decision and of course they had daylight. they had sunshine to see the tops of those clouds. making the decision they probably could get over the tops of them. but thunderstorms are very dynamic. it s really never advised to try to fly over the top of them for a lot of good reasons. when you re in a climate at that altitude for one thing you re in a very narrow margin of performance. it can get into a situation where you re very easily stall out the aircraft. a thunderstorm can grow rapidly and find yourself in the middle of it and dealing with extreme turbulence potential icing conditions and one of the most difficult things to do is hail. when hail starts hitting an airplane at those speeds you can imagine what happens after that. it gets very ugly very quickly. miles, you were telling me during the break you see parallels between this and another infamous plane gone
i can go back and look at the wings and tell by how they re bent and malshaped. sooner or later, i will break this down to find out if there s any mechanical problems, in this case. there was absolutely no mechanical problems. this aircraft stalled, icing conditions, and it was a human error, and not a mechanical error. when it comes to many plane accidents, do you need to discern if it was human problem or if it was mechanical problems? i would say it s never easy, but i could do the majority of the time, i will come up with probably a 90% to 95% chance of what happened in this aircraft accident. you can do that even if you don t have all the parts? that s a part of the puzzle, if you will, that makes it hard? i will never have all the parts. never. about you the more parts i get, it s like a mosaic. the more bits i can put in the mosaic, the better the picture will be, the better i can come up with an understanding of what happened. and so brooke, when you think about it, t
let me just say we ve been talking to government officials who say that the fbi has been looking at the computer hard drives and the flight simulators that the malaysians gave to the fbi, asking them to do an analysis. and so far according to our sources, they haven t seen anything yet that would lead them to any conclusions about a nefarious action here. they don t have any concrete evidence coming out of those hard drives that would lead them to believe that they can pinpoint the captain. that said, most people do think the captain probably steered this plane on a southerly course. why? we don t know. let s talk about the weather today in that area. sure. it has been horrendous. we have a real live satellite loop coming from the weather channel. the weather is so bad that in fact they had to divert planes today that were headed down into that area, send them back to perth, australia. the reason, they ve got extremely high winds, high waves, icing conditions. it was simply too d
images from perth, australia, the plane coming in. perth is right about here and they ve got pretty good weather, as you can see, blue skies. the trouble is the search zone is down in this area here. this is about, as we said many times, 1,600 miles, like flying from new york to denver. so new york s weather is not going to be denver s weather. right? and they have had horrendous weather conditions. they ve had very low visibility. they ve had icing, high winds, and also, you know, the water is nothing but white tops. imagine looking for any debris in an ocean of nothing but white tops and you ve got waves of 10, 20, 30 feet high and gusting winds and icing conditions. it s treacherous. it s dangerous. so they pulled those teams back today, back to perth, australia. they re hoping to get out tomorrow, but weather may again impede that and then on sunday more bad weather is coming. that s the situation. it s that time of year in that part of the world. all right. now let s talk about th
