Crystal Leisure Centre pools and changing rooms revamp starts

The Crystal Leisure Centre, Stourbridge.. WORK has got underway this week to improve the changing rooms and swimming pools at Stourbridge s Crystal Leisure Centre. Building contractor Speller Metcalfe has moved in to demolish the existing changing facilities at the Bell Street site while the centre is shut due to lockdown. Improvements are also planned for the leisure pool. Councillor Ian Kettle, Dudley Council s cabinet member responsible for leisure centres, said: I’m pleased to see that work has started at Crystal Leisure Centre. Regular users of the centre told us improvements were needed to the changing rooms. As a listening council we have got the ball rolling on that and contractors are in there this week ripping them out.

Halesowen Leisure Centre revamp plans approved

PLANS to revamp Halesowen Leisure Centre have been given the green light as part of a multi-million pound upgrade of centres across the Dudley borough. Halesowen Leisure Centre in Pool Road has been earmarked for a range of improvements to the gym, plus a new children’s play area, following approval of a planning application that was submitted earlier this year. Councillor Ian Kettle, Dudley Council s cabinet member responsible for leisure centres, welcomed the approval of the plan and he said: This is fantastic news and another step towards our commitment to creating first class leisure facilities. There will also be substantial improvements carried out soon at Stourbridge s Crystal Leisure Centre, including pool improvements and a revamp of the changing rooms, but planning approval for that scheme was not needed.

Dudley Council officers are recommending that the sites either be designated or re-designated as Nature Conservation Sites, following independent inspections by ecologists. Eight of the fourteen sites are being proposed for the first time – and half are in Halesowen, where an active campaign group has been lobbying the council to protect the green belt. The sites are:
