The government would like to be facilitators and supporters of the media and entertainment industry so that it reaches the world stage, said Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Secretary Apurva Chandra on Wednesday.
The opposition MPs on Monday questioned the Centre over efforts to censor Over The Top (OTT) platforms in the country and in reply, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry said the step was taken under the IT intermediary rules.
Union minister Anurag Singh Thakur on Tuesday said the central government was consulting stakeholders over means that can be adopted to stem misinformation flows into India, especially global media outlets.
The Union information and broadcasting ministry has said that content of national and social importance which is part of existing programmes would count as fulfilment of obligations under the recent guidelines issued in November 2022.
In addition, channels have been asked to broadcast 'public service' programmes on one of eight themes for at least 30 minutes a day but may produce their own content to meet this obligation.
