sucked into a tornado. no, we can t yeah, that s a tornado. mom, my gosh. mom, my god. i m going to move over there. no, mom, we re going to die. oh, my god. oh, my god. ashley: britta is here with the fox weather forecast. being from missouri, tornados is one of my worst nightmares and that scares me to death. being in a car is the worst place you can be. last tuesday was worst case scenario. we trafred from talking about severe weather to an ice storm. i-35 corridor will be an ice rink today. to be honest, today is worse than yesterday. right now getting a slight break, quickly this ice will build back in.
nearly 100 people had to be rescued. one confirmed fatality was a 60-year-old woman who was in her car on the phone with loved ones. they got disconnected. her car was swept away. ultimately mesquite officials found her once the water receded several hours later. a reminder how perilous this can be. in terms of why we re seeing this here, flash flood alley, i-35 corridor between san antonio and dallas, it has to do with the convergence of air masses between the gulf and the pacific that is prone for lots of rainfall in a short period of time. the soil is not good for absorbing water. here we find ourselves hope that the rest of the week doesn t look like the first couple days after all this historic rainfall. sam, thank you for the report. just because it s slightly distracting. where is that music coming from? we re negotiate a saloon.
take a look at this. even chicago will see just about 100 degrees that s going into tuesday, wednesday. you re just shy of that mark typically this time of year. it would be around 80 degrees but not just there. all the way down into texas along the i-35 corridor that runs north and south. oklahoma city and into dallas and austin and san antonio, triple digits. the desert southwest, those temperatures are going to back off a few degrees. it s not going to be dramatic but rather than 110, 115 degrees which is just as hot as it is across the middle east, those temperatures are going to be in the low 100s and by the end of the week it looks like a monsoon session develops. houston comes close to hitting that 100-degree mark again. so typically the heat travels towards the central midwest and into the great lakes and eventually the carolinas. sizzling heat here.
