And crucially its 85 effective against severe disease. Last night novavax announced uk trials had shown its vaccine to be 89 effective. And crucially that vaccine protects against the new more contagious uk variant. Its the latest escalation in a deepening row between the eu and astrazeneca over supplies of the vaccine which is mostly produced here. Today the eus Medicines Regulator approved the use of the astrazeneca jab for everyone over the age of 18, though germany says it will still only give the jab to the under 65s.
