REVEALED: Contract awarded for $12m Maryborough fire station

Premium Content Subscriber only A contract to deliver Maryborough s new $12.1 million fire and emergency services station has been awarded to timber manufacturer Hyne Timber and building firm Hutchinson Builders. Representing Minister Fire and Emergency Services Mark Ryan, Maryborough MP Bruce Saunders made the announcement today.   With a first of its kind in Australia concept, the new complex will deliver enhanced facilities for fire and emergency services officers, staff and volunteers while also supporting local jobs, he said.   The move paves the way for preliminary works to begin at the existing site in the coming months before major construction gets underway in the second half of 2021.

Former MSF Sugar workers put experience to use in new jobs

Premium Content Subscriber only After the closure of Maryborough Sugar Mill last year, another of the city s longstanding businesses saw an opportunity as the cane was crushed at the facility for the final time. Now the many years of maintenance experience from the sugar mill is being harnessed as part of Hyne Timber s expansion in Maryborough. Hyne Timber maintenance and improvements manager Steve Kerr said it was great to get a new, ready to go maintenance team. Despite the Glue Laminated Timber plant being totally different from a sugar mill, our new team bring skills and experience in all things mechanical and can just get on with the job, he said.
