The Barnstable Police Department is proud to be a collection point for Cape Cod Cares for the Troops. A donation box is located in the front lobby at 1200 Phinney’s Lane. Don’t forget to stop by the annual Troops in the Spotlight on Sunday, May 30 starting at 11:30 am. at Kmart Plaza, across from Cape Cod Mall.
50th Figawi Race Weekend
This weekend marks the 50th anniversary of Figawi Race Weekend, along with the event s first-ever two-day racing series Saturday and Sunday. The Figawi Race Committee, led by Principal Race Officer Tom Duggan, will be orchestrating the pursuit long-distance races.
Growing self-worth: Gardening a way out of homelessness

WEST BARNSTABLE Two local nonprofits, Resilient Roots and Homeless Not Hopeless, are collaborating on a spring project designed to empower people previously homeless to create regenerative, organic suburban gardens.
In 2020, the organizations collaborated at one of Homeless Not Hopeless s transitional homes in Hyannis, working with residents on garden projects.
This year, Homeless not Hopeless residents will work alongside Resilient Roots staff and volunteers there and at three other locations to create and plant gardens based on regenerative design principles – i.e., growing food in a manner that is sustainable and uses local resources.
