The threat of disastrous flooding across the gulf coast as now Tropical Storm barry brings high winds and drenching rain to mississippi and louisiana. After briefly becoming a category i hurricane the first of the season the system made landfall saturday about three hours west of new orleans. Casey stiegal is there. Yeah, they do. The wind comes and felt like a couple times i would get knocked over. But right now theres a little bit of a reprieve, as i say that it kicks up. Theres the wind. Were about 75 miles to the south and west of new orleans, closer to the storm than new orleans will get, but were probably 50 or so miles from the eye of this thing right now and in the eye of that storm is about a 75 mile per hour sustained wind, this is now a category 1 hurricane, barry is. Were getting gusts about that speed and at times it can be painful. The water smacks the side of your face. This is a big water and rain concern, a lot of people live at or below sea level and this is a very slowmoving storm, this is barely moving. You can walk faster than this and its just going to park and barely move over sout

We are sensing a great bit of impatience. Plenty of rainfall that is parked off of the coast from saturday to sunday. Be patient and do not drop your guard. The bit of good news is that the Mississippi River has peeked at 17. 1 feet and is already receding. It is not going to overtop the levies. Thats good news for anybody living in lowlying areas. Barry is 90 minutes west of us. Were being told that heavy rains will soak that region and this region as well. We saw some flooded streets on st. John parish. Yeah we are in here in morgan city about 75 miles or so to the west of new orleans, and this is where we think the eye is going to come ashore when it eventually does come ashore. Right now this storm is moving at a snails pace. People are worried how much rain is going to fall a foot to 2foot of rain in southern louisiana here. As we take a look out here we are standing on a 20foot concrete levee of a sort which holds back the river here. You can see why this is needed because this river is way beyond its banks already. If we look out a little further you can see the morings out there and you can see how much water has come up above the banks of this river. If we loo
