With COVID-19 vaccine eligibility opening up to 12- to 15-year-olds, community partners in St. Clair County are rolling out clinic options for youths in that age group.
A U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention panel recommended the Pfizer vaccine for the group earlier this week.
According to Dr. Annette Mercatante, St. Clair County’s medical health officer, there were ongoing community clinics open to public walk-ins that could accommodate youths with Pfizer doses.
There are clinics this weekend through the St. Clair County Diversity Initiative at the Eleger G. Harvey Reinvestment Center, 3013 24th St., that had both Pfizer and Moderna vaccine available. One was through 6 p.m. Friday and another from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – Five Washtenaw County high school students who use their passions to drive community change have been named Young Citizens of the Year for 2021.
Young Citizen of the Year recognizes Washtenaw County high school students for outstanding achievement in community service activities outside of school-based extracurricular activities. The Ann Arbor News started the initiative in 1998 to recognize high school students who give back, and the Ann Arbor Area Community Fund soon became involved to provide scholarships.

Ali Guenther said she was lying awake in bed recently when the idea to bring back a COVID-friendly way to celebrate senior year came to her.
“I was like, ‘We should have a car parade,’” said the 18-year-old, soon to be a Port Huron Northern graduate.
“‘How did you even go about starting it?’” Ali recalled asking. “And she was like, ‘Girl, make a Facebook page. People will join it.’”
And they did. As of early last week, nearly 250 had RSVP’d to the May 22 celebration, which will follow Port Huron’s traditional parade route through the city’s downtown ending at Pine Grove Park.

ANN ARBOR, MI - Seniors at Ann Arbor’s three largest high schools will have in-person, outdoor graduation ceremonies.
State restrictions on public gatherings prevent Ann Arbor Public Schools from having traditional, large indoor ceremonies, Superintendent Jeanice Swift said. But Pioneer, Huron and Skyline high schools will host two ceremonies with half the class in each outside so family members can attend and the district can remain in state compliance.
