The focus of the new division will be to identify potential cases involving inmates who have been wrongfully convicted, as well as to pursue available legal remedies. Gov. Ruth “Teeny” JoAnn (Jacovetty) Hugus, age 84, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2021.
She was born April 10, 1936, in Wheeling, WV to the late Mildred Radulovich and the late Charles Jacovetty. She was married to her loving husband and comedic sidekick, Eugene Hugus, for 63 beautiful years. Along with both parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Charles “Buddy” Jacovetty; daughter Charlene; and great-niece, Jennifer Jacovetty.
Teeny was known and loved by many and was a dear friend to all. Her kind smile could light up a room, and she could instantly make a person feel as if they were a part of her family. She was a dedicated wife, a loving mother, an adoring aunt, and the greatest grandmother. She had a vibrant personality and always made people laugh with her stories and fond memories. She welcomed all into her home and made sure everyone left happy and with a full belly.
18-year-old Princeton, Indiana, resident Isaiah B. Speedy was arrested early this morning on an initial charge of possession of cannabis. Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driving the wrong way on West Main Street and found roughly seven pounds of suspected cannabis, and Speedy and a juvenile were taken into custody. The juvenile was released to a relative, and Speedy was held in the Wayne County Jail, pending a bond hearing.
Three injuries were reported in a two-vehicle accident north of Orchardville last week. County deputies say 23-year-old Sierra L. Buffington failed to stop at a stop sign and struck a vehicle driven by 61-year-old Kevin D. Smith. The two were taken to Clay County Hospital for treatment, and a passenger in Smith’s vehicle was treated on-scene by North Wayne EMS. Buffington was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device.
