Hunt County added more than 220 COVID-19 cases to start the new year and while all of the latest individuals are recovering at home, the local hospital is already overflowing with patients because of the virus.
âWe are currently over capacity with both COVID and non-COVID patients,â Hunt Regional Healthcare CEO Richard Carter said in a letter sent to the Herald-Banner. âAs of today, we have 70 COVID patients in our hospital and are operating at 120 percent of our medical capacity. We expect these numbers to continue to rise due to a post-holiday surge.â
State health officials have also raised the countyâs COVID-19 death toll.

The office of Hunt County Judge Bobby Stovall reported an initial investigation by the Health Department determined the latest cases included 20 from the Greenville ZIP codes, five from Caddo Mills, three from Quinlan, two each from Commerce and Lone Oak and one each from Celeste, West Tawakoni and Wolfe City.

Hunt County officials reported another 148 confirmed cases of COVID-19 to end the work week and added another death attributed to the virus.
The office of Hunt County Judge Bobby Stovall reported Friday night that the Hunt County Health Department added 112 COVID-19 cases Thursday and 36 more were added on Friday. All of the patients were reported recovering at home.
The latest death was said to be a female, aged 50-64, from Greenville ZIP Code 75402, who was first reported with the virus on Dec. 14 and was reported to be isolating at home
The county had reported 3,466 total cases of COVID-19 as of Saturday morning, an increase of 356 cases in the past week.
