In a first for England, the home tests will be rolled out through 166 GP practices as part of the national NHS Cervical Screening Programme, allowing women to test themselves rather than by a doctor or nurse. The tests are usually conducted by health professionals in a GP surgery or health centre, but will now be posted to women or given out by a GP to increase uptake of screening for the Human Papillomavirus Virus (HPV), which can lead to cervical cancer.
