HAVANA, Jan. 12, 2021 /PRNewswire/ Habanos, S.A., through its exclusive distributors The Pacific Cigar Co. LTD (PCC) and Infifon Hong Kong Limited, presents its new vitola Primaveras de Hoyo de Monterrey (48 ring gauge x 167 mm length) in an exclusive event. This vitola has been specially selected by Habanos, S.A. to commemorate the spring festival of the Chinese lunar new year, this year the Year of the Ox .
It will then hit retail stores in the area on Jan. 14, with other parts of the world presumably receiving it in the near future, though Habanos S.A. has not yet announced when that will happen.
The Primaveras is a grand corona that measures 6 7/12 inches (167mm) long and has a 48 ring gauge, a parejo vitola known as the Hermosos No. 1. It’s the same size as the San Cristobal Mercaderes, a La Casa del Habano exclusive release, as well as the Romeo y Julieta Hermosos No. 1 Edición Limitada 2003 and the Montecristo Dantés Edición Limitada 2016.
A total of 8,888 boxes of 18 cigars are being released, with the numbers a nod to the number 8, which is a lucky number in Chinese culture. Each box features a red and gold color scheme, which are not only the colors of Hoyo de Monterrey but also meaningful colors in Chinese culture, as red symbolizes good fortune and joy, while yellow or gold symbolizes wealth.

According to the Chinese zodiac, 2021 marks the Year of the Ox, and there’s a Cuban cigar made especially to commemorate the Chinese New Year, the Hoyo de Monterrey Primaveras. This new cigar will fittingly get its global release in Hong Kong, in a virtual launch party engineered for today’s pandemic-ridden times.
Next Wednesday, on January 13, the cigar will be unveiled via a virtual party hosted by Pacific Cigar Co. Ltd., the Habanos distributor for most of southeast Asia. The next day, the Primaveras will go on sale throughout the Asia Pacific region.
Previewed at last year’s Habanos Festival, the Hoyo de Monterrey Primaveras cigars come in richly enameled 18-count boxes with words “Year of the Ox” printed prominently on the lid. The cigar measures 6 5/8 inches by 48 ring gauge, a size known as Hermosos No. 1 in Cuban cigar factories.
