Hottest night of the year. Pepco confirmed pour outages and the heat and humidity could be factors. Our Garrett Haake has been on the story all evening talked with affected residents and businesses. Hes live in northeast. Garrett . Reporter debra, thankfully the power is finally back on here in northeast for all but a few dozen people who might still be without it. For a while tonight, though, there were more than 4,000 people across the district without electricity. Pepco says the first outage tonight in northwest was not caused by the heat, but regardless of what caused it all these people had to deal with the high temperatures. At andre jones home in upper northwest the power went off just like that. The next thing we know, bam. You know, so i ran downstairs. I thought maybe it was a breaker. Drivers were being stopped tonight. Reporter police are checking for drunk drivers and warning people about the dangers of others. This is all in memory of autumn jenkins, who was killed in a headon crash with a drunk driver in april. You have saved a life if you get one impaired driver off of the roadways. On them is gone. She is now a statistic. The young womans father is also a volunteer firefighter and says her story needs to be told to save lives. We have to educate the public on driving intoxicated. And hopefully they will be able to educate more people as we go along. Tonight is just the beginning. More than 10,000 people were killed across the United States in 2013 and accidents involving alcohol, a statistic that might be shocking to some people being stopped here. When parks wife ko tried to help her husband investigators say he stabbed her four times critically injuring her. It was a very bloody, brutal crime scene. The wounds included stab wounds, a number of slashing cut wounds, a lot of blood. Again, some of the deputies that witnessed the crime scene were pretty disturbed about what they saw. Reporter the Prosecutor Says both the victims were cooks at the Korean Church retreat and had only just arrived in the last few weeks for missionary work. The suspect had been staying in a homeless shelter in Baileys Crossroads but his mother drove him to the retreat five days ago. On saturday the sheriff says kim called to complain about the center. Actually the defendant made a call himself to 911. He indicated to deputies that responded that he was really unsatisfied with the food at the facility.
