Pepco says the first outage tonight in northwest was not caused by the heat, but regardless of what caused it all these people had to deal with the high temperatures. At andre jones home in upper northwest the power went off just like that. The next thing we know, bam. You know, so i ran downstairs. I thought maybe it was a breaker. Reporter jones was one of more than 2,000 pepco customers in northwest to lose power around 7 p. M. He and his kids couldnt stay indoors after that. Very, very, very hot, extremely hot. Reporter around the corner john hoss house was the only one with his lights on. We could hear his gas Power Generator humming from the street. The generator has been in a year and this is the first time its actually been used. We were going was that a good investment . Reporter what about now . Looks like it was a pretty good investment. Reporter and across the street one of his neighbors also employed a gas powered solution to the sweltering heat. My power went out and i need to keep my phone charged and because as hot as it is, i decided to turn my car on with the co2. Reporter most northwest residents had their lectures on by nightfall. Night electricity on by nightfall, but in the trinidad neighborhood of northeast where the power lines run underground technicians had to go manhole by manhole to find the failures and repair them.
