The speaker has yet to unveil his plan for a temporary spending measure to keep the government lights on until those separate appropriations bills can be passed prompting Democratic leaders to accuse the House GOP of using the impending deadline as a tool to “extract extreme demands.”
Although Texas Republicans acknowledged “there are other ideas that could be added to aid the effort,” they argued the Senate should instead push for the full passage of H.R. 2 as it was passed in the House.
The House will move forward with an effort to censure Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) after lawmakers rejected an effort to table the motion, dealing a blow to Democratic leaders who sought to shield their party member from a formal condemnation over comments she has made related to the conflict in Israel.
Greene announced the resolution on Monday, seeking to punish Tlaib for “antisemitic” behavior and “sympathizing with terrorist organizations” related to the Michigan Democrat’s recent comments on the conflict in Israel and her calls for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The legislation comes in response to an announcement from Interior Secretary Deb Haaland in June that the Biden administration would implement a plan to phase out single-use plastics on public lands by 2032.
