HUBBELL Police are investigating the shooting of a Hubbell woman by officers responding to a report of shots fired at the house Monday night.
Troopers from the Michigan State Police Calumet Post and Houghton County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home about 9:15 p.m. Monday, according to a release from the MSP.
Officers encountered a 28-year-old woman outside the house with a gun, the MSP said.
In a video posted online by a bystander, officers are heard yelling “Drop the gun!’ at a person coming out of the house. The person, who appeared to be carrying a pistol, repeatedly yelled back “F ing shoot,” “shoot me” and “I’m going to f blow my brains out.”

Monday around 9:15 p.m. Michigan State Police from the Calumet Post and a deputy from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of shots fired at a Hubbell residence. Officers encountered a 28-year-old woman armed with a gun outside the house. The officers repeatedly commanded the woman to put the firearm down, but she refused and tried to go back into the residence with the gun.
Fearing for the safety of an elderly person inside the home, the officers fired their weapons, striking the woman. They administered first aid until paramedics arrived and took her to the hospital.
