The earthquake hit around madeday local time. The epicenter less than 50 miles from the capital of kathmandu. Hours later the area was shaken again with a series of at least 15 aftershocks. The earthquake triggered landslides on nearby Mount Everest and some of nepals ancient historical sites have been devastated.
