COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC) - The South Carolina Forestry Commission declared a Red Flag Fire Alert which took effect Monday morning warning of an elevated wildfire risk.
The alert went into effect at 7 a.m. for Georgetown and Horry Counties and discourages people from burning outdoors because of the risk.
“The weather conditions will be favorable for wildfire ignitions in those areas,” SCFC Fire Chief Darryl Jones said. “We want people who may be finishing up yardwork from the weekend to be aware of the elevated potential for fire danger.”

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCSC) - The stateâs Department of Employment and Workforce says just more than 4,000 filed their first claim for unemployment in the last week.
SCDEW said for the week ending Saturday, it received a total of 4,089 initial claims, up from 3,705 in the week ending Feb. 20, the lowest total reported in 2021.
That brings the total since March 15 of last year who have filed that first claim to 854,215.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WMBF) – Hundreds of nonprofits in South Carolina who have struggled during the coronavirus pandemic will be getting some extra money soon.
Back in October, Gov. Henry McMaster announced two new grant programs made available through the SC CARES Act: the Nonprofit Relief Grant Program and the Minority and Small Business Relief Grant Program.
On Wednesday, the South Carolina Department of Administration announced that 686 organizations will receive money through the Nonprofit Relief Grant Program. Those who applied were eligible to receive between $2,500 to $50,000 in funds.
