COLUMBIA, SC (WOLO)– The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office says they are conducting a death investigation after a man’s body was discovered in a car in Manchester State Forest last week.
On July 22, authorities say they were notified by officers with the South Carolina Forestry Commission of the body being found. Officials later identified the man as 55-year-old Gregory Scott Abbott, of Columbia. Deputies say they responded to the scene that evening and have been investigating since.
An autopsy was scheduled for July 27.
The South Carolina Forestry Commission (SCFC) is urging citizens to be cautious when burning yard debris or conducting prescribed burns, due to abnormally dry conditions in the month of May for "nearly half the state. "
Record high lumber prices are driving up costs for builders and home buyers. Author: Eleanor Tabone (WLTX) Updated: 11:25 PM EDT May 14, 2021
COLUMBIA, S.C. First it was toilet paper, now it s lumber. The nation s lumber industry is seeing serious shortages in lumber, and it s sending prices skyrocketing.
Tom Reke from S.C. Lumber and Supply says demand is high. I ve been doing this for almost 30 years, and I have never seen it like this, Reke said. Just a standard sheathing traded for over $100 a sheet, which is absurd. That s three to four times more than I have ever seen it.
