Just down from Tremonte is
3 Country Bistro, which, as you may have guessed, offers three different types of cuisines Japanese, Korean, and Thai though you’ll also find dishes traditionally found in other Asian countries, including a marvelous Indonesian fried rice. (Their sushi and pad Thai are also very fine.)
Finally, just south of the common is
Roma’s Bakery and Deli, an old-fashioned Italian food spot that’s known in part for their Sicilian pizza slices and their scali bread and is a perfect place to go for takeout.

Woburn Center tends to have the highest concentration of indie restaurants to check out, but several good eateries can also be found both north and south of the downtown area. A couple of local faves reside along Route 38 heading south toward Winchester, including

The Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is a great place for bird-watching during migration months.Suzanne Kreiter/Globe staff/file
The Tree Swallows are back in Nahanton Park this week. I saw two Eastern Phoebes this morning â first of the year, or FOY. The grackles returned to town weeks ago, rusty door-hinges creaking at my feeder. As New England wakes from its winter slumber, the birds return, wave by wave, species by species. The woods are already full of woodcocks doing their weird evening interpretive

While meaning no disrespect to hardcore hardwater types, it’s time to mothball the traps and reacquaint yourself with the cast! Dovetailing with that nicely is the continued trout stocking by Masswildlife, although some anglers aren’t waiting and doing just fine with last fall’s fish.
Friend’s fishy photos serve a number of purposes: the altruistic of which could be considered an invite to – “get the heck down here!”. But then there’s the torturous side of those pictures which seem intended to torment as if to say, “I’m catching these and you’re not”! For those dying to cast, it looks as if the wait is over!

The ice fishing game is on out west and the bass bite is good!
It’s often been said that ones perception is one’s reality and if you’re sticking close to the coast hoping for hardwater than you’re missing out on opportunities elsewhere. Talk of 15 pound pike and Hilltown trout abound out west and finally there are even solid reports of solid ice north of the border!

Belsan Bait and Tackle in Scituate said that he is occasionally getting customers who are picking up some clams and surf casting towards the horizon, as well as hopefully a wayward cod, off South Shore beaches. Two which have produced in the distant past were Rexhame and Duxbury. For a more dependable outing, try soaking a shiner among the cranberry bogs of Norwell. Of course it is January and for those who prefer their winters with ice underfoot some are picking up a flat of herring and heading out to western pike spots
Get out of the house and go birding in Waltham and beyond
Wicked Local
Birdwatching is the ideal pandemic activity. You can do it alone, it gets you outside, and aside from a decent pair of binoculars and a notebook or phone app to help you identify species, you don’t need much to get started.
Fortunately for us, the late fall and winter is a good time to see birds that find Massachusetts warmer than their more northern homes, as well as those that live here year round.
While Cambridge s Mount Auburn Cemetery may known as the area s premiere birding destination, Lexington Conservation Steward Keith Ohmart argues that many spots in town rival the famous cemetery. In Waltham, Prospect Hill Park is one popular place to watch birds.
