The met branch trail is one trail of many in the district and so we are going to have to have the same solution implemented on Anacostia Waterfront trail crescent trail has markers but more trails coming. The weather. Reporter the power of lightning, on this tree the tree was split from the top all the way down into the ground and below. About 6 30 last night phil and janice were standing on the balcony watching the lightning show. I was doing the counting thing and the next thing i know an explosion occurred. Reporter he said the explosion was severe. It was frightening. After i gathered my senses we realized the tree over here was blown up. Reporter the more than 100 foot tall cypress tree which stood directly above the balcony they were standing on was detonated by a Lightning Strike. When lightning hit this tree it literally electrocuted it, so much so that the tree in response blue into pieces blue into pieces.
