The killing of Daunte Wright by a police officer last month has opened wounds afresh in Minnesota, where only a year ago the death of George Floyd, after police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for nine minutes and 29 seconds, sparked protests that spread across the country. With the trial of Chauvin just completed, and new demonstrations over Wright’s homicide, two grassroots groups, in partnership with a Black-led museum, are preserving work created in the aftermath of these events and readying an outdoor art exhibition. BELOIT â Every day brings a new adventure, said Necole Littlejohn, whose dream of opening her own restaurant has come to fruition.
âThe fun part is the people,â Littlejohn said. âEvery day has growth, every day is different.â
Littlejohn, a former nurse who is from the Rockford area, opened Happy Hooks Fish & Restaurant in Beloit on Sept. 4. The new eatery is located inside a strip mall at 2715 Prairie Ave., Suite B.
She and her staff have been serving fish, desserts and âsoul foodâ with plans to continue adding new items to their menu in the near future.
In January, Littlejohn said, they are looking to introduce specialty fish and seafood dinners to their growing menu that also includes chicken wings, pork chops and ribs.
