8 South Island walks to take the kids on

Hooker Valley Track, Aoraki/Mt Cook, Mackenzie District Perhaps the most iconic walk in the Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park, this walk has it all. Three incredible swing bridges, and river and mountain views, culminating in the fabulous Hooker Lake with views of Aoraki/Mt Cook itself. It is a decent length walk though, at 10 kilometres return. However, it is a flat track, so there are no steep climbs here. It will take adults about  three hours return, but if you have kids who will have a fun break at the lake to throw stones and have lunch, allow  four to five hours in total.
