Contemporary fine artist Dr Ron Lawson is creating a new centrepiece for a council estate A SUNDERLAND artist and sculptor is set to create an eye-catching work that will feature prominently in the centre of council community. Stanson Fine Art, run by Houghton-le-Spring artist Dr Ron Lawson, has been commissioned by Sunderland City Council to create an attractive sculpture, that will stand among new council homes at Stanley Terrace, in Shiney Row. The piece, to be built from steel, features a sculptured bust of local miner, Robert Askew, a well-known pillar of the community and church. Mr Askew Robert would have walked by the area being developed on his way to the Lambton coke works, where he was a rigger. The piece is designed to pay homage to him, as well as the area’s mining heritage.

Daiwa House snaps up Jan Snel
Japanese factory building giant Daiwa House Group has bought Dutch-owned modular housebuilder Jan Snel in a deal that the firm says could boost its recently established UK operation.
Daiwa, which reported revenue of nearly £32 billion last year, has bought a majority stake in Flexibuild Holding, the holding company for the Jan Snel group, which describes itself as the Dutch market leader in industrialised and modular building.

Its chief executive, Harry van Zandwijk, said the ambition was that the deal enabled Jan Snel to become “the clear market leader in Europe” for modular construction.
