Contemporary fine artist Dr Ron Lawson is creating a new centrepiece for a council estate A SUNDERLAND artist and sculptor is set to create an eye-catching work that will feature prominently in the centre of council community. Stanson Fine Art, run by Houghton-le-Spring artist Dr Ron Lawson, has been commissioned by Sunderland City Council to create an attractive sculpture, that will stand among new council homes at Stanley Terrace, in Shiney Row. The piece, to be built from steel, features a sculptured bust of local miner, Robert Askew, a well-known pillar of the community and church. Mr Askew Robert would have walked by the area being developed on his way to the Lambton coke works, where he was a rigger. The piece is designed to pay homage to him, as well as the area’s mining heritage.
