Karnataka To Curb Unnecessary Movement of People in Lockdown Period May 21, 2021, 13:25 IST Karnataka is going through a tough scenario, with the state ranking second in the country for COVID deaths. Despite the Karnataka government extending the lockdown until May 24, there has been no improvement in the cases. On Thursday, the state registered 28,869 new cases and death count remained high at 548. While the total caseload was 23.35 lakh, the total toll stood at 23,854. Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday directed to implement a strict lockdown to curb the unnecessary movement of people. The decision on whether to extend the curbs will be announced by the Chief Minister on May 23. Despite the fact that lockdown measures are strictly enforced, people continue to break the rules, says Bommai. He pointed out that people should understand that the situation is serious with the virus continuing its spread and urged people to cooperate with the government.
