Rory McIlroy, (born May 4, 1989, Holywood, Northern Ireland), Northern Irish professional golfer whose meteoric rise made headlines in the sport. By age 23 he had already won two of golf’s four major championships the U.S. Open in 2011 and the Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) Championship in 2012 and risen to the rank of number one golfer in the world. McIlroy was a child prodigy who was introduced to golf by his father, and once the youngster’s golfing aptitude had become apparent, his parents worked multiple jobs and extra shifts to support his training. McIlroy was hitting 40-yard drives with
