She is director of the division of the Senior Historian at the jack joseph and morton Mendel Center of holocaust studies. On the day that they laid the cornerstone for the first diversity building, they had an auction of town lots. They understood that as the university was conceived, it would need a town around it to support it, provide businesses and a place to live. It became chapel hill and was born on the same day.
