boogie boarding saturday afternoon at 12:15 off cape cod when he was attacked by a shark. he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at cape cod hospital. this is the first shark attack death in massachusetts since 1936. witnesses say the 26-year-old from revere, massachusetts, was about 30 yards offshore with his friend when all of a sudden, beachgoers saw violent thrashing in the water. a shark fin sticking out. people screaming shark, shark! the man was bit in his leg, down to the bone. dozens of people rushed to get him out of the water and on to the beach. the man s friend tied boogie board cords around his leg to try to stop the bleeding. they tried cpr, but it was too late. people were in the water at that point. everyone was screaming to get out, get out, there s a shark. and someone had been bitten. and that is how we knew something horrible had happened. the man was bleeding from his
legs. this attack happened off of hollow beach in massachusetts, an area popular with surfers. no word yet on the type of shark that attacked. this is the second shark attack off of cape cod in as many months. in august a 61-year-old new york man was bitten bay great white shark. bitten by a great white shark. he s still recovering. at the time of the attack there was seals in the area. the number of shark sightings have increased as the local seal population has rebounded thanks to federal protections over the years. he believes these seals are attracting more sharks closer to the shore. sear is now calling on more preventive measures to stop this from happening again. beaches are closed still further notice. there were no life guards, jon, present because it is after labor day. jon: thanks. also in massachusetts thousands of people uneasily making their way back to their homes in three cities north of boston, after dozens of gas
