“The general assembly hereby finds, determines, and declares that this act is necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health, or safety.”
Most people who don’t work in the Legislature probably aren’t familiar with this statement, called “the safety clause,” which appears at the end of every bill in the Colorado Legislature.

The guilty verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial is a relief, but not a victory.
A victory is when we no longer need a witness to record the murder of a Black man in order to recieve some sense of justice, when Black people are not incarcerated into modern-day slavery, or murdered by police in modern-day lynchings. As stated by the Movement for Black Lives organization, “A conviction is not justice; our communities deserve more.”

It was during those fun days we became closely acquainted with the importance of agriculture in Colorado, as we met my grandfather’s coworkers and friends, many ranchers and farmers, my cousin the cowboy and his friends, and the people behind the scenes in the rodeo and livestock handling.
