Marshall and her son Blake had picked up Emma, a 2-year-old hound mix, three days before Christmas as part of the Wayne County Dog Shelter’s Holiday Sleepover program. The shelter allowed families to foster dogs over the holiday weekend, providing the dogs with a warm and loving home for Christmas. Blake had been begging his mom to adopt a dog, but she wasn’t quite ready to make such a big commitment to a new pooch. Last year, Marshall had to put her dog of 13 years down.
