The shelter allowed families to foster dogs over the holiday weekend, providing the dogs with a warm and loving home for Christmas. Blake had been begging his mom to adopt a dog, but she wasn’t quite ready to make such a big commitment to a new pooch. Last year, Marshall had to put her dog of 13 years down. She thought the holiday sleepover would be a good test for adding a new member to their Massillon home.

The center is asking the community to host a holiday sleepover with one of its adoptable dogs this Christmas. The goal is to empty the shelter for Christmas Day by placing the dogs into a temporary foster home and possibly getting more dogs adopted. Stephanie Kurzenberger, the lead canine technician at the shelter, said many families have expressed interest in the program. Now, the shelter needs to more than a dozen dogs with the right family.
