The thomas fire is burning 45,000 acres in los angeles county, the creek fire spreading into the hills of the san fernando valley. The ventura fire started last night near santa paula 60 miles northwest of downtown los angeles. The fire is being propelled by strong santa ana wind gusts. The flames spread quickly. Homes, a hospital, and other buildings in downtown ventura have burned. 27,000 people have been forced to evacuate their homes. Crews are still battling the elements as well as the fires.
