The Monticello School district says Police Received a text message indicating a student might bring a gun to the high school yesterday. As a precaution, police were at the school, and students were not allowed in hallways during classes. Parents, if they wanted to, could take their kids out of school for the day. Early yesterday morning, Monticello Police chief britt smith got a message on his phone. It was a notification that someone had sent an anonymous tip about the gun threat to the jones county text to tell system. Once the tipster sends the text, officers can respond asking for more information. But the tipster can end all communication at any time, by simply typing stop.
