The BJP on Friday released its first list of 70 candidates for the Assam assembly polls and announced that allies Asom Gana Parishad and United People s Party Liberal will contest on 26 and eight seats respectively. The three-phased elections for the 126-member Assam assembly will be held on March 27, April 1 and April 6. Party general secretary Arun Singh told a press conference that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will contest from the Majuli (ST) reserved constituency and state minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from Jalukbari. The two seats are currently represented by the two top state BJP leaders in the assembly. Assam BJP chief Ranjit Dass will contest the polls from Patacharkuchi instead of Sarbhog from where he won in the last elections.

Day 3 of Assam Assembly Proceedings Held at Under-Construction Building
The Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami said that initially there might be temporary hiatus in conducting the session in the under-construction building.

GUWAHATI: On the last day the of the ongoing Assam assembly session, Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami invited all the members of the present Assembly to take part in the proceedings in the new building.
The new building complex is located adjacent to the existing Assembly complex.
Earlier, MLAs from both ruling and Opposition parties, including Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Industry Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary and Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami toured the building.

Guwahati, Feb 13: Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday said that his government has fulfilled all expectations of the people of the state and will come back to power after the assembly elections, likely to be held in March-April this year.

Guwahati, Feb 11 : The last Budget session of the Assam Assembly ahead of the April-May elections, got off to a tempestuous start on Thursday, with the Opposition MLAs displaying placards over various issues and trooping into the well of the House, forcing Governor Jagdish Mukhi to cut short his customary speech.
The Opposition Congress and the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) legislators began shouting slogans against the misgovernance of the BJP-led government including corruptions soon after the Governor started reading his speech on the opening day of the three-day Budget session.
