SILCHAR: MP Dr Rajdeep Roy, a poll strategist, blames it on infighting and wrong choice of candidates for the poor show of the BJP in the Barak Valley.
The party was expecting 10 of the 15 Assembly seats in the Valley, but it had to remain contented with six seats. This is even though heavyweight star campaigners like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, MP Manoj Tiwari, and a host of State leaders addressed largely attended public rallies at different places in the Valley. Were these huge gatherings deceptive index of public support? Large crowds are not always indicative of a swing of votes for a party.
Saffron alliance faces toughest tests in three seats of Hailakandi district
Three LACs in the district of Hailakandi also under Karimganj Parliamentary Constituency will pose a thorny battleground for the alliance of BJP-AGP

SILCHAR: The three LACs (Legislative Assembly Constituencies) of Hailakandi, Algapur and Katlicherra in the district of Hailakandi also under Karimganj Parliamentary Constituency will pose a thorny battleground for the alliance of BJP-AGP (Bharatiya Janata Party- Asom Gana Parishad).
This is primarily because of the fact that the AIUDF (All India United Democratic Front) was the sole winner here during the 2016 Assembly elections. And in 2021, by forming alliance with the Congress, the AIUDF has gained more confidence to remain unbeaten with its new ally. But, it will not be that easy either.
The BJP on Friday released its first list of 70 candidates for the Assam assembly polls and announced that allies Asom Gana Parishad and United People s Party Liberal will contest on 26 and eight seats respectively. The three-phased elections for the 126-member Assam assembly will be held on March 27, April 1 and April 6. Party general secretary Arun Singh told a press conference that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will contest from the Majuli (ST) reserved constituency and state minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from Jalukbari. The two seats are currently represented by the two top state BJP leaders in the assembly. Assam BJP chief Ranjit Dass will contest the polls from Patacharkuchi instead of Sarbhog from where he won in the last elections.
