As its footprint shrinks, Congress pins hope on Gujarat & Himachal polls : #RashtraNews #footprint #shrinks #Congress #pins #hope #Gujarat #Himachal #polls (This story originally appeared in on Mar 13, 2022)NEW DELHI: Congress has three state governments as junior allies of regional parties, one more than full-fledged governments of its own, in what is evidence
In a surprising turn of events, senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi lost the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh to BJP s Harsh Mahajan. Cross-voting by six Congress MLAs led to a tie. Singhvi won the draw of lots but lost due to an Election Commission norm. Singhvi accused his party members of backstabbing. The BJP now considers moving a no-confidence motion against the 14-month-old Congress government.
“We have not lost the trust. We got 34 votes and they got 34 votes. Six Congress MLAs did cross-voting … Was it a vote of resentment?” says CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu
In this regard, Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter and said, "Many congratulations to all our Babbar Sher workers, leaders and members of the state for the big victory of Congress in Shimla Municipal Corporation elections. The Himachal government fulfilled the promise given to the people, that is why Shimla reposed faith in the Congress. Now in Karnataka, it is the turn of 5 guarantees (5 election promises in Karnataka)".
