PeaceHealth recently launched a 15-month modernization that will remove four buildings from the campus on Hilyard Street and revamp the main lobby. In the past, the buildings were used for things like inpatient psychiatric care, surgical services and cardiac units. However, the buildings have sat empty since 2008 when Riverbend Hospital opened in Springfield. Alicia Beymer, chief administrative officer for the hospital, said the plan is to carefully remove the buildings and turn what’s left into open space.

The five plaintiffs and the CLDC initially filed a federal lawsuit in July 2020 that alleges Eugene police officers violated their First, Fourth and 14th Amendment rights. The city has settled two lawsuits related to policing from May 31.   The filing, made after a months-long legal discovery process, reveals that one of the Eugene police officers involved with the May 31 evening alleged police brutality has been a defendant in other police misconduct cases and lawsuits.

Just before 8 p.m., EPD said all traffic lanes of Hilyard in both directions will be shut down for the next several hours. They re asking everyone to avoid the area. This is a developing story.
