Hillsdale Board approves change orders to school building project

KEY ACTION The board approved as amended a change order to allow additions to the school building project. These changes were able to be added and still keep the project under budget.
The following items were voted to be removed from the project:
Baseball and softball infield artificial turf ($414,255.78).
Stadium revisions second discus cage, lights, etc. ($49,325.15).

City of Hillsdale awarded Drinking Water Asset Management Grant

HILLSDALE The city of Hillsdale and Hillsdale Board of Public Utilities announced that the city has obtained a $241,000 drinking water asset management grant through Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy.
The grant will help to ensure the city’s water supply complies with rules promulgated by the 2018 revisions to Michigan’s lead and copper rule. There are no matching funds required for the grant.
The city intends to use the grant funding to complete verifications of water service lines according to LCR revisions as well as compile a complete distribution system material inventory, which is due to EGLE by January 2025. A key component of the inventory is determining the material type of each water service for residences and businesses within the city’s service area. The second change order was to add items such as signage and upgrade its storm shelter based on peer reviews for a total of $194,230.28.
This happens when builders continue to build the school and find things that were not taken into consideration. Project is well underbudget, we re at about 11% on an $84 million budget, said Sean Lehman, consultant for Hillsdale.
OTHER BUSINESS
The board recognized the retirement of two district employees: Karen Cook (playground aid, 26 years at Hillsdale Elementary School) and Frances Howman (custodian, over 50 years in the district).
The board approved a property transfer from Hillsdale Local Schools to Northwestern Local Schools. The property is 1639 Township Road 65, Jeromesville. There is no set date yet. The family members in the house all went to Northwestern, however they live within the Hillsdale line.
