THE chairman of the National Trust has resigned after a row over policies which linked the trust s historic properties to slavery. Tim Parker s announcement of his decision to quit came the day after a motion at this year s annual general meeting said the membership had no confidence in his leadership and demanded his resignation. Mr Parker informed trustees of his intention to step down from the position of chairman the day after the trust’s houses reopened to the public on May 17. He will end his term in October. The organisation said Mr Parker had served two full three-year terms as chair of the organisation and his final term had been due to end in 2020, but a third term had been agreed to provide stability during the pandemic.
