The Martha s Vineyard Times Kristal calls report ‘irresponsible’ In a statement, Tisbury select board member says he strives for ‘equitable playing field.’ Select board member Jeff Kristal, shown here in a 2018 meeting, responded to a Times story. -Gabrielle Mannino Tisbury select board chair Jeff Kristal has responded to police allegations he targeted a local businessman with a written statement calling The Times story “irresponsible.” The response from Kristal came via email from town administrator Jay Grande, even though The Times reached out to Kristal as much as 24 hours prior to publishing the story by phone, email, and even showing up at the door of Crocker House Inn where Kristal lives and works.

The Martha s Vineyard Times Candidates needed for Tisbury election With less than a week left in the nomination process, there is just one race thus far in the Tisbury town election. Incumbent Jim Rogers is facing a challenge from Roy Cutrer Jr. for the town’s select board. Cutrer is currently a member of the Tisbury board of assessors. That presents a problem at the moment for the town, because there’s already a vacancy on the board of assessors, with no one having taken out nomination papers for the position yet. Cynthia Richard has decided not to run for re-election. If Cutrer were to win the select board race, there would be two openings on the three-member board of assessors, town clerk Hillary Conklin wrote in an email.

Tisbury short-term rental regs take flak Board reschedules town meeting, annual election. Town clerk Hillary Conklin was in on the discussion of when to hold the town election. At a hearing on short-term rental regulations and fees Tuesday night, the Tisbury select board heard from homeowners unenthused about the additional costs the regulations would impose. Tisbury is the only Vineyard town to make demonstrable progress on regulating short-term rentals, but thus far has yet to flesh out all the fine details. At the get-go, following a number of constructive suggestions posed to the board through letters, select board member Jeff Kristal suggested the regulations should be considered a “living document,” and as such, subject to “changes periodically.” He was in favor of voting in what was drafted thus far, and having the Tisbury’s short-term rental task force continue to provide input, with an eye toward a future hearing when the regulations could be updated.
