江戸時代から続く麦味噌（みそ）の老舗「光浦醸造」（山口県防府市）が、繰り返し洗って使えるシート状のストローを開発した。竹や木材、金属フィルムなどさまざまな素材を試し、最終的に選んだのはプラスチック。環境問題への配慮から「脱プラ」の動きが広がる中、どうして？ そこには親子が込めた思いがあった。
きっかけは2年前。8代目社長光浦健太郎さん（43）の長女更紗（さらさ）さん（10）が取り組んだ夏休みの自由研究だった。当時小学3年生。海のごみ問題について本を読んだ更紗さんは、ストローが昔は麦わらで作られていた歴史や、使い捨ての問題点を調べ、光浦さんとともに環境にやさしいストローを作ることにした。
