The Supreme Court on Thursday said that there is no comparison between Kirpan and the turban of Sikhs with the hijab as a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court held that wearing a turban and kirpan is allowed for Sikhs.
The Supreme Court is hearing a batch of appeals challenging a Karnataka High Court verdict that effectively upheld the ban on wearing hijab in government schools and colleges.
In the case challenging the hijab ban in Karnataka government educational institutions, the Supreme Court on Wednesday asked the petitioners whether right to dress can be claimed as a fundamental right under Article 19.
