Ocean city. This cold air is expansive all across the east and its going to stay here the next couple of days. Now, we do have a system that is making its way our way. That system will actually move in and bring temperatures back above freezing tomorrow or very close to the freezing mark. You can actually see that system off to the west bringing . Snow to places like iowa today, in towards parts of the chicago land area. This storm will move just to our north. Helping to bring in slightly warmer temperatures. Then another storm behind that one brings in a chance for snow on saturday. Heres what weve got. Cold pattern is locked in, even colder for the new year. Doug spent his career in Law Enforcement, including ten years as sioux falls chief of police. He was here for the budget address, but lets welcome him again. Doug, where are you . Welcome. Mike is an attorney and an experienced legislator having served three terms in the 80s and 90s. I really appreciate his willingness to serve especially on just such short notice. First of all, i want to congratulate you on your comments on your focus on Mental Health and i include that in addiction because i think that is one of the most serious issues we are facing, as i have found out in my 2. Ive years in my 2. 5 years. The addiction is ending up in our prisons, emergency rooms, and our state prisons and that is not the solution. We have got to come up with a longterm partnership with the federal government, local government, and everyone involved to deal with this very
Level of business engagement. If you go to Front Range Community college where ive been in colorado you will see they have an advanced manufacturing partnership. Its a partnership between the federal state and local government. You see that the curriculum is being devised in partnership with industry. You actually see that there are businesses whose workers are professors. And what they tell me is one of the reasons they love teaching is they cherry pick the best students. And thats fine. Thats how you build your talent pipeline. And so we need to continue the efforts. And, again governor fallin thank you for your leadership on behalf of Community Colleges. We had four years worth of what we call tax grants. We have since dismissed our acronym director because its a clumsy acronym. What it stands for is using Community Colleges to catalyze change in the work force system. What i learned from these grants is that oftentimes businesses werent talking enough to educators.
