On this week’s Newbie adventure, I had the pleasure of meeting artists in Westport and Dartmouth during the July version of the SouthCoast Artists annual Open Studio Art Tour.
If you’ve never been on this tour, artists and fans alike are invited to explore studios across the region to catch rare glimpses into an artist’s private world and maybe see them at their craft.
“It s really about connecting the community to the artists and having people be able to see how the work is made,” Lindsey Epstein, SCA communications director and participating artist said in a previous interview. “It’s for people to understand how the piece is made, what’s the process and how to take that home is the most important part of the tour.”

NEW BEDFORD After the success of BuyBlackNB’s first pop-up vendor market at the Rotch-Jones-Duff-House in June, the organization will host another event to celebrate National Black Business Month on Aug. 28.
“There was something so special about our Juneteenth market,” said Justina Perry, creator of BuyBlackNB. Since starting the organization in June 2020, Perry has worked hard to bring exposure to Black-owned businesses in the SouthCoast region.
“The sense of community among the vendors and the energy from those who attended.it was beautiful and it was just the feeling I hoped this event would promote. We’re proving that this concept works in our city and if you build it people will come,” Perry said in a press release.
