exactly is going on, not just with mueller but also with the southern district of new york. let me throw this out there. he sort of surprised us by answering questions we thought he wasn t going to answer about conversations or non-conversations with the president. it seems to me that maybe this was preapproved, that he could answer that because it works, right? because it s a negative. right, it is a negative. and i believe he wouldn t have done that unless it was arranged that, oh, yeah, it s okay for you to say that you haven t talked to the president about this. we know the president has publicly said that he hasn t discussed this with anyone. and so i think, you know, it s kind of a pr move because it works for it does work for the adminisration. i do think that is a strategy today. if you see exactly where he s going, the line that they ve drawn is that he can say what i ve not told the president or what i ve not said, but he s
definitely not saying what he has said, what conversations what kind of advice or any kind of conversations he s had with people in the white house, for instance. he s made sure that he stayed within those lines. so even though he s a bit sloppy, i think that s the line he s trying to observe. what i was trying to say is he sort of signed himself up, though, by saying he hasn t spoken to the president about the mueller probe, because then, inevitably, the question will be what about the sdny probe, which he hasn t answered yet. then he could say, yes, he did talk to him about the sdny investigation. it will be interesting to see how he handles that question. manu says expect that to come. you had great reporting with jared where you detailed that. the president had been questioned about these sdny
trump had even with people like me that were adversarial from a civil rights point of view. there s talk that michael cohen could not cooperate with the southern district considering he considering he got 3 1/2 years in jail today because he doesn t want to spend that time there. considering what you know of him and the fact you ve known the president for so long as you have and dealt with michael cohen, do you think he could actually do that now? i think he could. would he? i think that given his concern about his family it s very possible. i mean, you can t predict what someone will do, but it s very possible that if he s looking at his family and looking at the president now denouncing him, what will be his motive to continue in his path where he s going, to go to jail if in fact he has information that is valuable. i just had lawyers throughout this show, and they re saying there s a lot of evidence building up and they re
effect of pushing them more toward the democrats or ultimately demobilizing them and keeping them from voting. so it s going to be interesting to see his gamble on immigration and going so hard on doubling down on the anxiety of immigration. i think it s important to note when he talks about immigration, he s not talking about the context of policy. he is talking about it in fear mongering, in creating anxiety to scare americans to the polls. let me just put this out there for you for a moment. the president, when you look at the map of where he s been campaigning, where he s going, he s playing it very safe. he s going to areas he has a lot of support, most of the districts he won back in 2016. he s staying away from parts of the county as we just heard from the former congressman here that are in play, the 72 or so districts. is that a safe bet? is he too afraid to go into areas where the seats are in competition and he just wants to stay in the safe pockets? i think this is all
sure working families get a fair shake is on the ballot. but maybe most of all, the character of our country is on the ballot. president trump packing in seven rallies in the next three days and next hour, he ll be speaking at a rally in montana where democratic senator jon tester is in danger of losing his seat to republican matt rosendale. senior cnn white house corresponde correspondent jeff zeleny. where the president will be, you d think this was a presidential kaechlicampaigningf race but this is really unique. reporter: no question, where he s going, a lot of states that trump won and he s trying to
