The civic body of Ludhiana has finally begun the installation of sensor-based traffic lights at major junctions of the city. The adaptive traffic control system will detect the volume of traffic at the junction and accordingly adjust the timer to ensure smooth movement of vehicles. The new system aims to provide relief from traffic congestion and reduce air pollution.
Ludhiana is set to receive 1,000 advanced technology LED street lights that can adjust their illumination level based on the number of people on the roads. The lights will be installed in selected areas under the Smart City Mission, bringing better technology and energy efficiency to the city.
