Heritage Fair returned in-person on Saturday, February 25th, after a virtual fair last year and no fair the year before due to COVID-19. Hosted by Heritage Patrimoine Cornwall, a municipal committee focused on heritage preservation, Heritage Fair is a yearly event that coincides with Heritage Week which takes place the third week of February each year.
The owners of another property in Cornwall were also presented with the Heritage Award earlier this month. Gerald and Shirley Wood, who own 321 Amelia St., the former Beth-El Synagogue, were presented with the award for the work they undertook to renovate the building. Having been built in 1925, the former synagogue officially closed its doors on April 2, 2009. It remained vacant until the Woods who originated from Kingston purchased it with the intention of renovating it.

That’s the message being delivered loud and clear by some of the city’s leading heritage experts, in a detailed letter this week to the mayor, council and city, titled Engine 17: A Sad Story of Neglect.

In the letter, prepared by Wes Libbey, the group says the Benson Centre is the “perfect location to set up a ‘Cornwall: Industrial and Innovation Past’ interactive centre. There is a lot of down time for parents and families between games and while the children are practicing. . .an interactive display will offer them a new place to go and learn about Cornwall.
