still dark, you saw the police who were mobilizing, as people were lining up along the street. this is no small feat. it also involves volunteers that trained for this all year round. what can you tell us? reporter: you know, chris, this parade would not happen without the volunteers. there are about 8,000 people who participate in this parade, and many of those people, they have not slept. they worked through the night to make this happen today. we were there yesterday when they were inflating the giant helium balloons. and this has really become the parade before the parade. this used to be something only new yorkers knew about. now, about a million people show up to see this process. i can tell you, there were thousands of little kids hanging on the metal railings, waiting for these giant balloons to take shape. there s about 150 volunteers out there, a lot of them from stevens institute, and there really is an art form to these balloons. they train four times a year, how to infla

in north korea. that is being focused on by south korea. really both sides of the peninsula at this point, there is some anger at this movie. well, it was meant to be an outrageous comedy and it is certainly garnering some outrageous responses. and also, what about efforts, paula, for those in south korea who try to smuggle things into north korea to get people there to try to be able to see it? well, this is certainly going to be one of pyongyang s biggest concerns that this movie could make its way into north korea. we ve seen these so-called propaganda balloons and activists sending dvds showing exactly what is happening in north korea across the border in helium balloons. we know that many of them do make it to north korea. we ve heard from some defectors they have seen some of the dvds and cds.
their leader? reporter: it s interesting. here in south korea, there weren t set plans to release it in the cinema. it wasn t one of the target audiences for sony pictures. it s questionable how many people in south korea would have seen it. now we know thousands of south koreans are illegally downloading it because of the controversy. they want to know what the fuss is about. even though they may not have been interested before, there s back and forth between washington and pyongyang and they want to see it. pyongyang don t want them to see it. they don t want the threat like his leadership. there has been one activist in south korea who will try to infiltrate north korea, sent helium balloons over the border with the dvds so some can see the movie.
